Product Description
Commonly referred to as Delrin, this Acetal is a useful replacement for metal in many applications such as gears, pulleys, impellers, etc. Easily machined with all standard machine tools. Its machinability is equal to or better than free machining brass in the normal operations of milling and turning to threading and tapping. This Acetal Resin offers a high degree of dimensional stability, toughness, impact strength, low coefficient of friction and fair chemical resistance.Note: Delrin may cause allergic reaction. Use of gloves and a dust mask is recommended when handling or machining.

I bought a chunk of this material to make a reading stylus. I know it isn't recommended to use a stylus for speed reading, but I use one, it seems to act as a sort of 'momentum' to keep me moving. I wanted some kind of plastic that would slide smoothly over the pages and I found it. This material is light weight and exhibits low friction, yet doesn't wear inordinately. It worked easily enough on my wood lathe for the short piece I was turning, but it did tend to bend rather too easily for turning. You have to keep your length/width ratio pretty thick. I went ahead and bought the three foot piece (stylus only five inches) and I'm sure I'll find other useful applications for the remainder. Good stuff. Too the price from this supplier was something unusual, FAIR!
